Book 1

Slarvak's been awake for some years. He kills Pogo's parents because he wants to destroy Ethan's bloodline. There was a prophecy thousands of years ago that said that one of Ethan's bloodline would bring his empire down. Of course, this was after Slarkavak had died, his uncle Trakabak the other emperor had been killed when he and his brother, Slarkavak, had fought over territory. His side of Ethan's bloodline was gone. There was the other side of Ethan's bloodline to destroy now. The last remaining of Ethan's bloodline is Pogo and Chipley's families. He tries bombing the hospital, and nobody knows that Slarvak is back, as he makes it look like an accident. A robot, who understands all this about prophecies, tries saving them and takes them aboard the Allelue Ledauche, because then nobody would believe him about it all and probably retire him. The Allelue Ledauche was on its way to Ikanoga, so he could hopefully drop them off and find a suitable home for them under his protection. The U.W.A. was safe, and safer than most other Unities. However, Slarvak knows about all this, and then sends Space Pirates to the Allelue Ledauche. Slarvak is staying hidden because he wants to rise to power in secret and catch the galaxy unawares. Xyalthric (the robot) saves them and puts them in the escape pod just in the nick of time. It flies off just as the Allelue Ledauche was bombed and torn apart by explosives. Slarvak doesn't know that they escaped in the escape pod, and is reassured that he has destroyed the last of Ethan's bloodline. When the news reaches him that the Allelue Ledauche was bombed but there were two survivors- two babies- he was enraged. He found out that the babies had crashed on Umfa and had been rescued by Orthilius. Slarvak rushed to Umfa and sent a droid into Orthilius's house to turn the stove on and light some wood while he supposed they were sleeping to look like an accident. The house caught fire, and he left. However, it turned out that Orthilius had taken the two babies to Ikanoga to be identified. This got him more angry. Orthilius returned to Umfa and found his house burned down. Everyone said he had left the stove on. So he rebuilt his house and everyone was happy for a while. Slarvak was waiting for the right moment to come.
Rasnovius wanted to rebuild his grandfather's empire, but he wanted to make it stronger, too. He attacked the UWA without warning twelve years later. Rasnovius started out secretly, like Slarvak. He gathered an armada and they flew to Ikanoga, the capitol of the UWA, and attacked in the middle of the night. Pogo and Chipley, who were in the Institute for Intergalactic Biological Studies building with Orthilius at the time, who was there because he wanted to sign up for a teacher once again, saw it all happen. They had met Monga and Chu and Chi earlier that day, who were Aabani. It turned out that Monga also was looking for a job to teach in. Her husband had been killed in the Battle of Le'ek-mi'onn (in another Unity that the UWA had offered to help with the Pirates trying to get Unitorial dominence) and Monga lived alone with Chu and Chi. At nighttime, Pogo woke and found the 'mysterious' fleet bombarding the city. Startled, he woke Chipley. They both hurried to wake Ortho, but he already had awoken. They rushed down the hall and met Monga with Chu and Chi. Monga was just as startled as they. They joined the frightened crowd on the way down the stairs (The Elevators, which, luckily, had an automatic emergency lock in case they were broken, refused to open) to Senator Harim's ship. They wondered where he was, but the driver informed them that Harim had gone on a seperate ship to safety.
The ship flew back to Umfa. In the morning, they find tapes of the attack and the wreckage the next day. The President remains shut up in his office, not doing anything. People get scared when they find out Rasnovius is behind this. They pack up and move out of the Unity. Everyone's fleeing. Pogo, Chipley, Orthilius, Monga, Chu, and Chi decide the same thing. Once they're in space in a ship called the Persiddon, Orthilius loudly says "Curses!" because he had forgotten to refill the fuel tank. As they sit there in space, a small ship requests permission to dock alongside them. It barely has any fuel. They consent and so enter, Quig and Quog! They know how to drive a ship because it's in their genes, Their species having micro-adapted to space travel over many millenia. They had escaped from their master, a slob named Ogjog, who was trying to sell them as slaves in another Unity. When they were asked why they wanted to come to the UWA at such a time, they simply say that they had nothing better to do
Quig and Quog agree to drain the last bits of fuel in their ship to Pogo, Chipley, and Ortho's so they could make some progress on one condition. That they could drive. Well, they are allowed to, and they say the slaver's ship wasn't a good one, anyway. They leave but find the maps won't work. They hadn't charged the ship with electricity yet, and so they were lost. They knew they weren't in the UWA anymore. Eventually they reach a large ship, which turns out to be a Rasnovian Carrier 37.5. Hiding behind a slow asteroid, Quig activates some things with the wires, intending to listen to radio signals emanating from the ship. They find that Rasnovius is planning to demolish Dopiki if the UWA doesn't give in to his rule. Orthilius wants to warn the UWA, but before they can turn around they are spotted and they are warned that if they attempt to escape they WILL be blasted apart. They are led inside the large ship's docking area. Quog asks if they have any hidden compartments.
They hide in it, and when searchbots come in they can't find them. They exit the ship and the it's dumped out into space for junk.
When the coast is clear, Quig jumps into the seat. They drift in space for a while before radioing the UWA a distress message. The Army comes, but something happens. Instead of firing at Rasnovius's ship, they fire at the Persiddon!
Luckily, Quig and Quog were good at flying. They dodged the laser blasts and got away in time. They reached an Inter-unitorial space stop, where they filled up on fuel. While there, Pogo, Chipley, Quig, Quog, Chu, and Chi discuss what had happened. On a nearby television aerial, they watch a broadcast in which Rasnovius loudly declares, over an intercepted message, that the President has been working all along for him, and that Rasnovius had sent him to help Rasnovius take over the UWA. He then gives all the planets in the UWA that refuse to let him take over an hour before he demolishes them. Everyone's shocked, and ships start leaving the platforms. While in the ship, Quig and Quog discuss what their options are. They can either go and escape to another system (useless, really, as Rasnovius is on a role to conquer the galaxy), or they can fight back and win the battle. Monga, Chi, and Ortho are all for escaping, but Quig, Quog, Pogo, Chipley, and Chu want to fight back. Ortho said it would be useless, as eight people couldn't save the galaxy from an evil mastermind bent on galactic domination, but Quig and Quog remind them that they are Maarkonian, and that it's in their genes for space combat. Ortho reluctantly agrees, and so does Monga. There was only one problem. Where would they go first? Pogo suggested that they go and assist Dopiki against Rasnovius's ships. Chipley asked how he knew if Rasnovius was even going to fight Dopiki, but Pogo simply told him that the Bandobians on Dopiki weren't going to give in to Rasnovius's new rule so easily. Chi asks if anybody's listening but the Dopiki system is all the way on the other side of the UWA, and it would take more than four hours to reach it by means of reaching the nearest available warp zone. By then Rasnovius would have led his fleet there. Orthilius is about to say something when a loud bang rocks them around in the ship. Chipley asks what's going on, and Ortho, who got thrown into the open fridge, answers something large has collided with their ship. Orthilius gets out of the fridge and joins the others by the window. A section of an enormous ship flies by. Quog quickly activates the ship and they fly upwards to avoid one of its large rockets. As they get higher and higher, they find a brown-colored ship, the enormous one, followed by two slightly smaller ones of the same color on each side. Quig says that it's one of Rasnovius's ship carriers. The smaller ones are also carriers but are guarding the large ship for now. He tries to pilot the ship away, but then they get shot at. Chipley asks what they're playing at, but Pogo says that the travelling ship, theirs, is designed like that of a Dopikan MPW-2, a Warship. Dopiki had probably already refused to accept Rasnovius as ruler, and the large ships were on their way to the UWA. Chipley suggested that they bomb the ship to smitherines. Quig agrees with this proposition, but says that their ship has only small laser blasters for defense, and the Weapons Carrier also has a shield and is defended by two smaller RI-WCs, too. The ships continue to fire at them. Quog activates the defensive shield as four warships piloted by robots fly out from one of the RI-WCs and immediately begin firing at them. Quig and Quog outmanuever them, and then manipulate the chase so that the warships fire at each other.
